E Testevent 2009

Capgemini’s Testing community has added another successful edition to its annual Test Event. On September 2nd, more than 150 colleagues including our new colleagues from Capgemini BAS gathered at the Congress center in Papendorp, Utrecht. This year’s theme was ‘Testing in a Changing Environment’. In a keynote presentation Huub van der Wouden set the stage by telling his story about testing the baggage handling system at Heathrow’s new terminal T5. It showed that even thorough testing couldn’t prevent the total chaos on the first day of operation, vividly reported by the BBC.

The keynote was followed by two sessions of three parallel tracks each. The audience saw Gerwin van Eersel, Paskal Kiers and Marja Schütz explaining how testing is managed at UWV. Peter Nelis presented the 10 most effective metrics in the current crisis and Agnes Lassche showed how Capgemini BAS increasingly satisfies the market’s demand for performance testing. In the second session, Marieke Brinkman used a ‘knowledge cafe’ to display what testing training is offered by the Capgemini Academy. Nathalie Rooseboom de Vries - van Delft discussed the past, present and future of standardization and Dirk van Dael unveiled his guiding principles (COMPAS) for connective test management.

After these sessions, it was time for the ‘Mystery Game’, which turned out to be an active fun session in small teams of about eight members each. In each of the rooms, two teams received the same (very high level) user requirement. In the first part, each team had to come up with additional requirements for their product and at the same time build that product. In the second part, the product of the other team had to be tested against the requirements using ‘traditional’ testing and exploratory testing. Surprisingly none of the products was destroyed while testing! Along the way, six of Capgemini’s test leaders had been walking around to evaluate the process, and according to them the team ‘Black A’ had done best.

Right on schedule, the event’s host Julien Bensaid could wrap up and invite the audience to the well deserved (and well attended!) closing drinks. Once again the Test Event has been able to inform and entertain Capgemini’s (NL and BAS) active testing community. Again this event shows an already extensive cooperation in knowledge sharing, career development and events (the organizing team consisted of members from NL and BAS). Thanks!
